For my doctoral research, I am designing a burnout intervention for frontline workers who support survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.

Key Details

  • Established & developed multi-year partnership with The Network: Advocating Against Domestic Violence, a community-based org that runs the Illinois State Domestic Violence Hotline & unites 40+ agencies in Chicagoland that support survivors. I work with their Director of Special Projects, Colleen Norton.

  • Studies I have designed & led:

    • Exploratory semi-structured interviews (N=16) to explore potential opportunities for tech to support nonprofit human services work

    • Co-design/focus group workshop (N=26); included group-based ideation, storyboards, creative matrices, and support network mapping activities

    • 3-stage competitive analysis & participatory ideation (N=15); included low to mid-fidelity design prototypes, card sorting-like and ranked feature set activities, rose-bud-thorn, field study & technology probe-inspired methods, & conceptual diagramming analysis

    • Longitudinal data collection via REDCap (N=40); use of 6 clinical assessments for burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and related phenomena to be used for statistical & ML analysis, future design directions, & later shared with the local community
